KGB-journalism
Matthew Brzezinski, former correcpondent of "Wall Street Journal", published in "Los Angeles Times" article on defence of Kremlin. Kremlin is peaceful, West must not bother Kremlin and everything will be OK. Brzezinski doesn't write "Kremlin", he writes "Russia," "Moscow", but he thinks only about Russian power, not about Russia in general. He states that modern Russia is too rich to have any desire to wage a war. Moscow is overfilled with rich cars. What a Marxist point of view--as if poverty and economic problems are the main source of wars. Agression and proud are the main reasons of militarism, and Russia is overfilled with them. Moscow is very rich townn but who are "new Russians" with apartments which costs 50 million dollars (Brzezinski mentions this)? Generals, generals, generals. "Generals" for me includes Putin and other KGB-men, who usually colonels, but in Russian system colonel of KGB is higher than general of army. And oil-dollars from the West are used mostly to produce and buy weapons.

The article of Brzezinski is a nice example of "Munich-psycology." It will not go the "Hytler test": whether Brzezinski in 1936 will say that Germany is not going to begin a new World war, to kill 6 millions of Jews, that democratic countties must not irritate Germany? Yes...

Excuse me for my English at first.
Dear father James, I do not think that Russia wants to start some wars, but some reasons are very realistic. For example to defend Abkhazians or citizens of South-Osetia. It will be honest. We can now see that liberal world starts the wars much more often than the countries with non-democratic goverments. War in Lebanon has shown it. I think that christians mustn`t participate in politics at all, especially in liberal.
I hope we shall continue our converation in future.
Again and again pray to the Lord!

I don't think that liberalism can wage any war--by definition. Bush is not a liberal, at any case. As concerns Your position, it is more widespread than mine, so don't be nervous. I don't understand why RUssia must defend citizens of Georgia (and Abhazia and South Osetia are parts of Georgia according to the international law) from Georgie herself. I think this is just an imperialist rethoric. As concerns our desire to wage a war, I can pont to a fact: in 2000 the budget of Army Ministry of Russia was about 100 billions and now nearly 900. If a man spends money on marihuana, he can use it. If he spends money on weapons, he can use these weapons even if he thinks of himself as a peacemaker. Actually, I don't want to discuss the problem of war--on my site You can find the article "war", "pacifism", study them and AFTER that please tell me something NEW.

Excuse me I am not so long time in LJ, so I have not found your articles. Don't forget that many citizens of Abhazia and South Osetia have russian passports, and Kosovo is a part of Serbian republic, if Kosovo will be independent state, it will be inernational precidient. I know many Armenians (here in our native city Moscow :-)) they are dreaming about unity of Karabakh and Armenian state. They have paid many blood for their first victory. I am rather nervous you are right, but I am trying.

Comparing modern Russia with Nazi Germany is quite strange and unproven to me.

I don't see where are the real similarities, apart from proclamations that Putin "is modern Hitler"?

Does Russia announce any plans to conquer the world or at least turn part of it into slaves?

Is there an official racist or anti-semitic propaganda, concentration camps for Jews and non-Russians?

There are political problems in Russian society, but they can't even closely be compared to Germany's of 30-s. Yes, there is a lot of corruption, but this just shows how weak is the Russian state, not how strong it is. Nazi Germany was a strong state with German people flocking around their leader and blindly following whatever Nazis told them to do. Russians don't even bother sending their sons to the army! All they need today is "bread and show".

Building nationalism from top is not the same as building fascism from the bottom as it happened in Germany. Americans are more nationalist than Russians. Rebuilding of military is not militarism - China or States have way bigger military budget.

If anything, China is much closer to fascist Germany than Russia - it officially oppresses personal freedoms and rebuilds its military at an unprecedented pace. It can start war with Taiwan any moment. In reality, China IS a much bigger threat to both Western world and Russia.

Regards.

Sorry, I avoid discussions with people who don't dare to defend their views under their own name.
